Snowed Under The steel radio tower

The landmark the whole shovel loop is pointed at.

Steel Tower

English store text says steel tower. Japanese press says radio tower. Steam achievement A Signal in the Snow says reach the radio tower. Same object. It is the far destination of Snowed Under, not a starter POI.

Read How to Dig before you commit. Distant snow is harder. A tutorial shovel will make this approach feel like unpaid labor, which is already the Mixed-review complaint even with upgrades. Use landmarks to keep a heading, and base camp as the retreat point.

When to go

Go when:

  • A Better Tool is long behind you and Fully Equipped is close or done.
  • You have a tunnel you can reverse.
  • You have cans for stamina.
  • You have saved at camp.
  • You have kept Kai talks current if you care about endings.

Do not go because you saw the silhouette in the first five minutes. That silhouette is bait.

On the roof

Patch 1.04: “Fixed a bug where the freezing effect would not stop properly upon reaching the top of the tower. Added some new dialogue.” If you ice over after the climb on an unpatched build, update. That note is also your confirmation that the roof is a scripted story space, not just scenery.

A Signal in the Snow should pop when you arrive. Ending A may still need the scenes that follow. Do not alt-F4 because the VFX looks stuck; check the patch first.

Jump-peek. Binoculars. In-game map. The tower is the one landmark that stays tall when houses are buried. If flakes hide it, follow your own highway until a roof appears, then correct. Do not open-pit the entire map just to “see better” unless you are already in collectathon mode.

Lost to the Cold can happen on this walk if you linger in wind. Treat the approach as a supply run, not a sightseeing tour. How to Survive applies.

After you touch it

Story continues into ending flags. Use the walkthrough for the day structure that got you here, then the ending checklist rather than immediately starting a new file. If you still want 100%, the tower does not complete Patrons, 100 scraps, or every building. Those remain on achievements.

For tone: some reviews liked the ghost lore more than the finale. Some called the ending forced. That is a review conversation. This page only gets you to the antenna without freezing, starving, or walking the wrong heading for an hour.

Bring a plan for the walk home if the scene does not end the file. Players hunting Ending B needed the save that still had camp talks intact. A tower screenshot is not a backup. Dump, talk, save, then climb. If 1.04 was not installed, climb twice rather than assuming the story broke. The antenna is a scripted beat; treat it like a boss door even though you are still holding a shovel.

If you reach the tower under-upgraded, abort. There is no shame in farming the soft ring one more hour. The Mixed reviews that hate the shovel still needed that hour. A failed climb plus Lost to the Cold on your only file is the worst ending this wiki can help you avoid.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Is the steel tower the same as the radio tower?

Yes. English marketing and Japanese coverage use both names for the same goal.

Why am I frozen on the roof?

A launch bug stopped the freeze VFX incorrectly. Update 1.04 claimed to fix it. Update and reload.

Does reaching the tower finish the game?

It is a major flag (A Signal in the Snow). Ending A and B are separate achievements after story scenes.

Can I go there first?

You can try. Hard snow and a weak shovel make it a bad first-hour plan.
